Chelsea Football Club etched their name into football history with a dominant performance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, capturing the title with a 3–0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
The match, which was held at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, July 13, 2025, showcased Chelsea’s tactical brilliance under manager Enzo Maresca and the star power of Cole Palmer, who netted two goals and provided an assist. This marked the Blues’ first triumph in the newly expanded 32-team format, solidifying their status as a global powerhouse and capping off a remarkable campaign with world champion status.
Here are the five things we learnt from Chelsea’s World Club Cup victory(1) Enzo Maresca
The head coach of Chelsea, against all odds, led his team to win the first edition of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Maresca, who joined the Blues during the 2024 summer transfer window from Leicester City, showcased a masterclass performance in the final against PSG.
(2) Cole Palmer
The England international, named the best player of the Club World Cup, was in fantastic form throughout the tournament. He showed the world his quality in the final where he scored two goals and created one for Joao Pedro.
(3) Robert Sanchez
The Spaniard has been the most criticised Chelsea player heading into the tournament due to his poor decision-making during football games last season. However, Robert Sanchez proved the world wrong by showing what he is capable of whenever he is needed to step up his game.
He was named thr best goalkeeper of the tournament, an award that will forever remain dear to him throughout his career, and he hopes he has done enough to prove to Chelsea’s hierarchy that he can remain as the club’s number one going into the 2025/26 season.
(4) Pedro Neto
The Portuguese international was one of the shining lights for Chelsea at the Club World Cup. His speed and ability to break down the defence of opposition teams were also top-notch, and the performance in the semi-final and final was outstanding despite the devastating news of Diogo Jota’s death.
Neto scored three goals during Chelsea’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign, one in the group stage opener versus Los Angeles FC and two more in subsequent matches, making him one of the tournament’s key offensive contributors.
(5) Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo
The midfield duo was the best of all the 32 teams that played at the Club World Cup. Both players did not put a foot wrong from the first game until the final, they were instrumental in helping Chelsea overcome every Club that they faced throughout the tournament.
This partnership has been key in Chelsea’s past games and it will be in the future whenever they are both fit for the new season.
Other players worthy of mention include Reece James, Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Joao Pedro, and Trevoh Chalobah.
Chelsea fans will hope that their team will be able to replicate this same performance and consistency in all competitions when the 2025/26 season begins.
