Here are the five top clubs in Europe that would not feature in any UEFA competitions scheduled for next season (2025/2026).
Following what many would categorise as a disastrous 2024/2025 season for some of the top clubs in Europe, missing out on all UEFA club competitions seems to be the icing on the cake, confirming what many have feared for these clubs and that is there is work to be done in the 2025/2026 season.
Here are five clubs that are consistently present in UEFA competitions (Champions League, Europa League and the Conference League) every season, but they are expected to miss all tournaments in the 2025/2026 season:
Manchester United
Manchester United endured a dismal 2024-25 Premier League season, languishing in 16th place under Ruben Amorim, whose appointment in November failed to spark a turnaround. Their only respite came in the Europa League, where they overcame Lyon and Athletic Bilbao to reach the final, only to fall short in a lacklustre 1-0 defeat to Tottenham. While Spurs, who also struggled domestically, secured Champions League qualification, United now face a pivotal summer of rebuilding.
RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig suffered their worst-ever Bundesliga finish, ending the season in seventh place after a 3-2 home defeat to Stuttgart. Missing out on European competition for the first time since their 2016 promotion, Leipzig managed only 13 wins in 34 league matches. It is expected that the German side will also lose key players due to this shocking development, with Benjamin Sesko back on the radar of top clubs and Xavi Simons also in the headlines.
Sevilla
Sevilla, the undisputed kings of the Europa League with seven titles, have found themselves stuck in La Liga’s mid-table after another underwhelming 2024/2025 domestic season. Unlike previous seasons where European success masked their league struggles, the 2024/2025 season has been even worse, with Sevilla sitting 16th.
AC Milan
AC Milan, despite their illustrious history with seven European Cups, will miss out on all UEFA competitions next season following their rocky and turbulent 2024/2025 campaign. Currently sitting ninth in Serie A with one match remaining, their woes were compounded by a Coppa Italia final loss to Bologna, shutting the door on a potential Europa League spot.
Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad, a regular presence in European competitions, will be absent next season after finishing 11th in La Liga. The San Sebastian-based club, which reached the Champions League knockouts last year, has already lost key midfielder Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal, and further departures could follow.
