Norwegian side Molde FK has officially suspended 18-year-old Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga after he was formally indicted on a sexual assault charge. The former Flying Eagles star is accused of committing a sexual act without consent, an offense under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code.
The alleged incident was first reported to police in April 2025. Following the indictment, the club has barred Daga from all training and match activities “for the foreseeable future”.
Molde FK Chairman Odd Ivar Moen emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting the strain such cases place on the community.
“We have previously experienced how demanding these types of cases are… This is a matter of a serious nature, and we view the indictment with the utmost seriousness,” Moen stated. He added that the club aims to “act respectfully and facilitate a fair process for those affected”.
Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, has flatly denied the allegations. While acknowledging that a sexual encounter took place, she insisted it was entirely consensual.
“My client does not plead guilty and believes he has done nothing illegal,” Bolstad said. “There is no suspicion of violence or threats. He looks forward to having the case heard in court so he can clear his name.”
Daga, who joined Molde from FC ONE Rocket in January 2025 and recently represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, is currently in Nigeria on holiday. However, the club confirmed arrangements are in place for his return to Norway for the trial.
Legal proceedings are scheduled to begin in March 2026 at the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court.
