The body governing football worldwide, FIFA, has announced a lucrative deal for teams participating in the 2026 World Cup competition, which will be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America.

FIFA announced a 50% increase in prize money, in addition to the earnings participating teams will receive at next year’s World Cup. This is the bulk of a record $727m (£544.8m) financial distribution that the governing body’s council has approved as a result of the tournament.

This announcement comes a day after FIFA introduced a small number of £45 tickets for all 104 matches at the World Cup following widespread criticism of its pricing structure for the tournament.
