Former Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has undergone heart surgery after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat.

The 66-year-old, who is currently the head coach of Lazio, was advised by doctors to undergo medical checks after experiencing symptoms linked to the disorder. Lazio later confirmed that the surgery was successful and that there were no complications during the procedure, offering reassurance to fans and the wider football community

The procedure was carried out in Rome at the Policlinico Tor Vergata hospital, where Sarri underwent a minimally invasive heart operation known as catheter ablation.
In a statement released by the club, Lazio expressed gratitude to the medical team involved and confirmed that Sarri is now recovering well.

Sarri is currently taking a short break from coaching to rest and regain full fitness. Assistant coach Marco Ianni has temporarily overseen the training sessions. He is expected to return to the dugout in the coming days, with doctors optimistic about his recovery timeline.
