Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the midweek action.
The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.
Included in his dozen choices are two from Newcastle United.
These NUFC players with a sizeable contribution to the 4-3 victory over Leeds.
Eddie Howe leading his team to a brilliant win, Newcastle having gone behind three times in the match.
Troy Deeney explains why he has picked out Joelinton and Harvey Barnes for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below.
The BBC Sport pundit states about the Brazil international: “Joelinton is just a beast. The work that he has done, and the work Eddie Howe has done on him, is just frightening. He keeps popping up with important goals, but remember that they signed him as a striker. He’s just turned into a beast of a midfielder who runs all over you.”
I think pretty safe to say that Joelinton is one of the many who benefited from Eddie Howe arriving in the nick of time to save him from Steve Bruce.
Recent matches have seen Joelinton back to something like his very best, having had injury issues to deal with. He was outstanding against Leeds and has continued his goalscoring as well, absolutely brilliant to have the (now!) midfielder playing such a big role again for NUFC.
As for two goal hero and match winner Harvey Barnes, Troy Deeney says: “Two goals, the second being the match-winner, which was absolute limbs and scenes.”
The man from BBC Sport perfectly summing up that moment inside St James’ Park, those Newcastle fans who left before the 12th minute of added time will very much regret it forever more…
Troy Deeney though adding: “Harvey Barnes is another player where you’re like: ‘Go on, show us who you are.’ Unfortunately he always leaves you a little bit wanting. I’m always thinking there’s more to come from him. That’s not to take anything away from his goals.”
Not exactly sure what Deeney is on about here, I think all flair players, especially wingers, have up and down form.
However, Harvey Barnes has nine goals and two assists in all competitions this season and is averaging a direct goal involvement every 135 minutes.
As for his Premier League record for Leicester and Newcastle these past six and a half years, Harvey Barnes has a stunning and consistent number of direct goal involvements from 2019 onwards.
