Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State led dignitaries, military officers, and families of fallen heroes in the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony at Okpara Square, Enugu.

The solemn event honoured servicemen who gave their lives for Nigeria’s peace and unity. In a post shared via the NigerianArmyInfo X handle on Friday, Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and their families, pledging welfare programs and advocacy to ease the burdens of bereaved households.

The ceremony featured prayers, military parades, and tributes to widows and dependents of fallen soldiers. Governor Mbah urged citizens to draw lessons from the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, emphasising unity, discipline, and shared responsibility in building a stronger nation.

“Today, we remember the sacrifices of our heroes, who gave their lives to secure the peace and unity of our nation. Their courage and service must inspire all of us to embrace dialogue, restraint, and shared responsibility in building a safer, more united Nigeria,” he said.

He further highlighted that the state government’s support would extend beyond ceremonial observances, noting that advocacy and welfare programs would be implemented to help families of fallen soldiers.
