BREAKING: Gunmen Ambush Nigerian Police Patrol Vehicle, Kill Two Officers In Enugu

At least two police officers were killed on Thursday when gunmen attacked their patrol vehicle in Enugu State.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident happened at Depot Police Detective College junction at Enugu, the state capital around 09:30pm.

The gunmen also carted away AK-47 rifles, each loaded with rounds of live ammunition.

“Governor Peter Mbah DRS vehicle burnt to ashes and one police Inspector and a Sergeant were killed and their rifles with ammunition carted away by yet unknown gunmen,” a police source told SaharaReporters.

The officers were both attached to the Distress Response Squad (DRS) of the Enugu State Police Command.

It was gathered that the gunmen opened fire on the patrol vehicle belonging to the unit stationed on the street where the policemen were.

Security has deteriorated in the South-East with frequent attacks by armed persons in recent times.

Enugu State has witnessed some of the deadly attacks in the region.

Aside from government officials and facilities, the military and officials of other security agencies have been targets of attacks by gunmen in the South-East.

The Nigerian government has accused pro-Biafra group, IPOB of being responsible for the deadly attacks in the region.

But the group has repeatedly denied its involvement in the attacks.
