Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to AC Milan officially collapsed, with the Serie A club opting not to proceed with the transfer.

AC Milan had been expected to sign Mateta in a deal worth around £30 million, but after further medical examinations raised concerns, the Italian side decided to pull out at the last moment.

The main reason the deal fell through was issues revealed during Mateta’s medical checks especially worrying signs around his knee, which Milan’s medical team felt required more investigation before committing to the signing. After conducting these assessments in London and considering the condition, Milan ultimately chose not to continue negotiations with Crystal Palace for the forward.

Crystal Palace had already been preparing for Mateta’s departure: they agreed terms to sign a replacement striker, Jørgen Strand Larsen from Wolves, and Mateta was left out of Palace’s squad for a match amid speculation over his future.

There were also suggestions of interest from other clubs like Juventus, who could revive their pursuit before the window completely shut.
For now, Mateta will remain at Crystal Palace, at least until the summer transfer window, as the AC Milan move is off the table.

The future of the France international is still open, but any potential move to another club will have to wait or be carefully assessed, given the way events unfolded on deadline day.
