Manchester United travel to London to face Arsenal in the pick of Sunday’s FA Cup third round ties.

The Red Devils are the current holders of the trophy having beaten fierce rivals Manchester City in last season’s final at Wembley, but Ruben Amorim’s side will face a tough test at The Emirates on Sunday.

The Red Devils have endured a dismal season so far but earned a draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield last time out, and Amorim will hope to see his side pick up where they left off when they face the Gunners.

In the meantime, it has emerged that United are rivalling Manchester City for the signing of a Ligue 1 defender.

According to CaughtOffside, United are stepping up their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes amid interest from Man City and Real Madrid.

It is claimed that the Red Devils are in talks over a potential deal for the 22-year-old, however a breakthrough has not yet been made.

Mendes has attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs

Premier League champions Manchester City and Spanish giants Real Madrid are both said to have been monitoring the Portugal international, and United are therefore hoping to reach an agreement and fend off interest from elsewhere.

Mendes is contracted to PSG until the end of the 2025/26 season, but the report claims that the French champions will hold out for as much as £54.5 million for the Portuguese.

The left-back joined PSG on loan from Sporting CP in 2021, and then made a permanent switch to Paris the following year.

He has now made a total of 100 appearances for PSG across all competitions, providing 13 assists.

United, City and Real Madrid are all on the hunt for a new left-back and all three clubs have identified Mendes as a suitable target.

Amorim will be keen to bolster his options on the left of defence with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia having missed several months due to injury over the past couple of years.
