Amorim supplies injury update

Ruben Amorim has been asked for another update on the injury situation at Manchester United.
Speaking in the embargoed part of his press conference to preview Thursday’s home match with Southampton, the boss said there was understandably some fatigue on the back of the stirring Emirates FA Cup third-round triumph over Arsenal at the weekend.
Amorim admitted to MUTV there may be a time for fresh minds and fresh legs and Diogo Dalot is definitely ruled out through a one-match suspension for his red card at the Emirates Stadium.
Harry Maguire was withdrawn before the end and Lisandro Martinez was pushed up front, in the closing stages of extra-time on Sunday, but was fit enough to expertly convert his penalty in the shootout.
“Harry was sick in the last game,” said Ruben. “He was dead in the end – and that’s what I want from every player.
“[Playing against the Saints?] Harry, we will see. We cannot lose him, so we will see. Martinez, I think, is okay. Diogo cannot play – his fault!”
In terms of the bigger picture, the Reds have been without Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Mason Mount recently, while the head coach would not be drawn on whether Marcus Rashford will return to the squad.
Shaw is making good progress in his bid to be available again soon, after suffering a small setback in early December.
“Luke Shaw is nearer than Mason Mount,” declared Amorim. “Mason Mount will take a little bit longer. Luke, we’ll see in the next week or two. We’ll see if he’s returning.”
Ruben then dismissed any suggestion that midfielder Mount could miss the rest of the season.
