Apple is expected to infuse Siri with its own AI but is running behind schedule, said Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. According to him, there are engineering problems with Siri’s overhaul, and the smart features are not working consistently.

The update was initially scheduled to arrive in April with iOS 18.4, but it now seems likely that the Apple Intelligence features of Siri will come in May with iOS 18.5.

Gurman added that Siri’s makeover is a centerpiece of Apple Intelligence’s platform. However, the software has been released in stages, and it’s still missing from key markets such as Continental Europe and China.

This new step is an attempt for Apple to compete with ChatGPT by OpenAI, Google Gemini and even Llama by Meta. The company is struggling internally to meet deadlines, which might affect future updates, pushing some iOS 19 features to 2026.

Apple Intelligence is expected to let Siri tap into your data to better answer queries, a new system that would let the assistant more precisely control apps, and the capability to understand what is happening on the screen.
