Civic organisation, MonitNG, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, to urgently address the severe water scarcity plaguing Gurfata community in Ibwa Ward, Gwagwalada Area Council.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Wednesday, MonitNG highlighted the dire situation faced by residents who lack boreholes and reliable wells, forcing them to depend on contaminated streams for water.
The organisation warned that this had led to serious health crises, including outbreaks of waterborne diseases and even deaths.
MonitNG urged both the minister and the senator to take immediate action to provide access to clean and safe water, emphasizing that water is a fundamental human necessity.
According to MoniTNG, “This is Gurfata community, Ibwa ward, Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT, are suffering due to severe water scarcity.
“Without boreholes or reliable wells, residents rely on contaminated streams, leading to health crises and even deaths.
“We urge you to urgently address this issue and provide access to clean water, a basic necessity for every human.”

Residents of Gurfata have long complained about government neglect, with past appeals for water infrastructure yielding no results.
However, MonitNG insists that swift intervention is needed to prevent further suffering and potential loss of lives.
The organisation has called for the drilling of boreholes and the provision of alternative sustainable water sources to alleviate the crisis.
