A 60-year-old man is lucky to be alive.
This after he was shot and, at least, dodged four bullets.
The incident occurred on Friday, 7 March, around 1am, while he was asleep in his three-roomed shack in Midas, Mabopane, Tshwane.
Jan Moitlhwe’s sister Martha Modise (64) mentioned that her brother was admitted to Odi Hospital and later transferred to Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, north of Tshwane.
“My brother was shot while sleeping, and his king-size bed saved his life,” said Martha.
Martha said Jan used the bed as a shield against the bullets and was shot by unknown attackers.
He sustained a bullet wound to his body, which exited through his stomach.
She alleged five bullets were fired, four missed and one hit him.

“My brother lives alone, and we fear for his safety. He’s in a stable condition but still traumatised,” she said.
Martha also mentioned that Jan heard gunshots and hid next to his bed, screaming for help.
“We’re grateful that God saved his life.”
Jan is unmarried, with one kid. He works in a factory in Rosslyn, Tshwane.
Martha described him as a gentle person who loves cracking jokes.
“We want justice for him. It’s a miracle he’s still alive after so many shots were fired at him,” she said.
Neighbour Mpho Makgatho (42) recalled: “Strangers came to my home at night looking for a man, and after a while, I heard that Jan was shot.”
Community leader Agnes Lengwati (68) expressed shock over the incident and called for justice.
“This place has now become a hot spot for criminals. We hear gunshots at night and no longer feel safe,” she said.
Gauteng Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo stated: “Police have opened an attempted murder case for investigation. No arrests have been made, yet.”
