Boxing star Amanda Serrano has her eyes on one of Ronda Rousey’s records for her return to the ring this July.

Amanda Serrano and Ronda Rousey are two of the biggest pioneers in women’s combat sports history. As Serrano prepares to face Katie Taylor in a highly anticipated trilogy this summer, their legacies are on the verge of being intertwined forever.

Serrano vs. Taylor 3 is arguably the biggest fight in women’s boxing history. They’ll headline an all-female boxing card, a one-of-a-kind event for the sport.

Serrano, a top teammate of Jake Paul, will look to get back in the win column after two decision losses to Taylor. Their rematch at Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson in November featured some controversy after an inadvertent headbutt from Taylor sliced Serrano’s brow wide open.

Serrano is undoubtedly one of boxing’s biggest stars, male or female, in modern history. But Serrano wants to cement herself as an all-time great combat sports athlete as she chases one of Rousey’s records.

“I’m the highest paid female in boxing today & come July 11th I’ll be breaking Ronda Rousey’s record as the highest paid female Combat sports athlete in history,” Serrano declared.

Rousey made $13 million, per court documents, during her UFC tenure, by far the biggest career payout for a female fighter in UFC history. In comparison, Amanda Nunes is estimated to have made around $8-$10 million (MMASalaries.com) after winning two titles.

It’s uncertain if Serrano is pointing to Rousey’s all-time earnings record or single-event record. Either way, Serrano is envisioning a hefty payout for her trilogy against Taylor, especially if she’s victorious.

Ronda Rousey teamed up with former rival she tapped in just 14 secondsAs for Rousey, she recently teamed up with her UFC 184 rival Cat Zingano for a workout, further fueling speculation of a potential MMA comeback. But Rousey has repeatedly dismissed a potential comeback fight after claiming she’s not ‘neurologically fit ‘ to return to the Octagon.

During her 12-fight unbeaten streak, Rousey was one of the most dominant athletes on the planet, finishing some of her fights in mere seconds. She walked away from MMA after back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Nunes.

Rousey entered the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018, less than two years after the loss to Nunes. She briefly entertained a potential comeback fight against women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano before pivoting away from that sentiment.

Rousey set the tone for Serrano, Nunes, and other female combat sports athletes to make massive fortunes for their efforts. According to Serrano, she’s close to surpassing Rousey as the highest-earning female combat sports athlete.
