The University of Calabar has conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Law upon Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during its convocation ceremony celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Wike’s honorary degree arrives amid significant political unrest in Rivers State, where he is associated with the turmoil following President Bola Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration in the area.

During its 50th-anniversary celebration and convocation ceremony, the University of Calabar honored Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with an Honorary Doctorate in Law.

The award was given by the university’s Chancellor, Emir Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at the conference center.

The event featured several distinguished guests, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who, along with his wife, also received an honorary doctorate.

Other lawmakers, such as Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong and Senate Leader Bamidele Opeyemi, were in attendance.
