Yaya Toure in a latest interview with John Obi Mikel has revealed his thoughts on who deserved to win the 2013 CAF African Player of the Year award.
Football icon and legend Yaya Touré, who was a guest on the popular Obi One Podcast, the Ivorian legend, when asked about the 2013 CAF African Player of the Year award, opened up on who he had expected to win the award, given their performance the year before across all competitions.
Yaya Toure and Mikel Obi had both been strong contenders for the African player of the year award in 2013, and Toure, in his own words, confirmed that given the type of year Obi had in 2012 for both club and country, he was of the opinion that the Nigerian should have won the award.
He, however, stated that he had not expected to win, but he had the intention of attending the award ceremony regardless, as a way of showing support for the African football brand, like other continents do. Yaya Toure revealed, “You deserve it Obi to be honest, because the league, the season was perfect.”
He also encouraged other African footballers to always show their full or maximum support for the franchise back home, as it is important to help spread the word on a global stage about African football.
