A wireless message obtained exclusively by SaharaReporters reveals that the IGP, through the Force Headquarters in Abuja, has directed that the affected officers be brought before him for questioning, accompanied by their commanding officers.
The Nigerian Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has summoned 12 police personnel over viral videos showing what the Force described as “flagrant violations” of its Standard Operating Procedures and unprofessional conduct.
A wireless message obtained exclusively by SaharaReporters reveals that the IGP, through the Force Headquarters in Abuja, has directed that the affected officers be brought before him for questioning, accompanied by their commanding officers.
The officers are to appear in person alongside their immediate supervisors before the IGP via the Force Public Relations Department in Abuja on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at exactly 0900hrs.
The message, referenced CB:4001/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.10/145 and dated May 6, 2025, was marked “M/IMMEDIATE” and sent to Assistant Inspectors General and Commissioners of Police in Zamfara, Katsina, Enugu, Maiduguri, Bauchi, Jalingo, and the FCT, among others.
“Owing to trending videos of flagrant violations of NPF-SMP [Standard Operating Procedures] and unprofessional conduct, I respectfully convey IGP’s directive that you warn and release the following officers serving under you to personally come along with the defaulters against their names to interview IGP through PRESSFOR Abuja,” the signal read.
Among those named in the directive are Corporal Egali Blessing, Police Constable Musa Abubakar, Corporal Gloria Iliya, Corporal Ramatu Ali, Corporal Ekpo Patricia, and Corporal Salisu Isayku. Others summoned include Police Constables Abdulrahman Rabiu, Rukayya Yusuf Alalake, Odume Miracle, Latau Magdalene, Christopher Dorathy, and Safiya Shuiabu.
These officers are attached to various sensitive postings, including Government Houses, National Assembly security detail, and divisional units from states across Nigeria’s north and southeast.
In the same message, the IGP mandated senior police officials, including Provost Marshals from Mobile Police bases and supervising officers from affected divisions, to ensure the officers’ presence and compliance.
The IGP’s latest directive followed a recent warning to personnel over misuse of uniforms, unauthorised TikTok appearances, and a pattern of behaviour that many within and outside the Force have described as undermining its credibility.
The internal message also directed all Public Relations Liaison Officers and Press Officers in the affected commands to ensure strict monitoring and compliance, stating clearly: “Treat as very important, please.”
The wireless message reads in full:

On Monday, SaharaReporters reported that Egbetokun had issued a stern directive warning all personnel against uploading photographs of themselves in uniform to social media platforms.
The directive also prohibits sharing official police documents online and warns against carrying luggage or umbrellas for Very Important Persons (VIPs).
According to an internal wireless message dated May 3, 2025, and exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, the instruction was relayed to all personnel of the Police Mobile Force, No. 13PMF Squadron in Makurdi, Benue State.
The memo, signed by ACP Hassan S. Aliyu, the Commanding Officer, read: “The Inspector General of Police has reiterated his warning on NPF Social Media Policy, and further directs that, on no account, should any police personnel use his or her uniform picture on any social media.
“He further warns that any official documents are also prohibited to be (sic) published on social media, while those attached to V.I.P’s are warned not to carry any V.I.P’s luggage (bags) or umbrellas, any disobedience to these directives will be viewed with severe sanction.”
This directive came amid growing scrutiny over the image of the police on social media, where numerous videos and pictures had surfaced showing officers in compromising or servile positions, especially those attached to politicians and other high-profile individuals.
Recently, a video surfaced online showing Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers attached to a Chinese mining company receiving cash from foreign nationals.
In the viral video, the Chinese national hands N5,000 each to a group of police officers dressed in mobile police (MOPOL) uniforms. A woman and a young girl, believed to be members of his family, also do the same.
