Virgin still can’t beat the $35/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plans
Virgin Plus tweaked the price of its 60GB plan, raising it before lowering it again.
The Bell-owned wireless provider now charges $40/mo for the 60GB plan, which includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, unlimited calling from Canada to the U.S., Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, and U.K., unlimited international texting sent from Canada, and other standard features like call display and voicemail.
The plan’s 40GB of data is capped at 4G speeds of up to 150Mbps. Moreover, the price includes a $10/mo autopay credit.
However, Virgin previously charged $39/mo for the same plan, before briefly increasing the cost to $45/mo to match Rogers-owned Fido. As of June 6, the plan was back down to $40, falling in line with Telus flanker-brand Koodo’s $40/60GB plan. At the time of writing, Fido still charged $45.
While it’s good to see that Virgin’s temporarily higher price didn’t stick, it’s worth noting that the end result is still a higher cost, albeit only a dollar.
Moreover, Virgin, Koodo, and Fido plans don’t hold up to the competition right now. Public Mobile, which is also owned by Telus, offers a $35/60GB plan with 5G data and Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming built in. Not only is it cheaper than the others, but you get faster 5G data speeds and free roaming.
Similarly, Freedom Mobile has a $35/60GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico plan and a $40/100GB Canada-wide plan. Again, options that are cheaper and/or with more and faster data.
So, if you’re looking for a new mobile plan, it might be worth expanding your horizons beyond the Big Three.
