Former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has weighed in on the recent controversy involving Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a video making the rounds online, Wike supported Governor Okpebholo’s stance that Peter Obi should seek permission before visiting Edo State. Wike recounted his time as governor of Rivers State, saying that Obi had once informed him ahead of a visit, which he saw as a respectful and proper gesture.
“When I was Governor, Peter Obi notified me he was coming to my state,” Wike said, addressing Okpebholo. “The statement you made, you are quite right,” he added, affirming the Edo governor’s position.
Governor Okpebholo had sparked public criticism after a viral video showed him warning Obi not to enter Edo State without his consent. The remark drew backlash from several quarters, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who condemned the statement and described it as a threat to democratic values.
