Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has opened up on why clarified the star forward Ademola Lookman, might not complete a transfer this summer as news initially suggested amid increasing interest from Inter Milan and other top European clubs.
Speaking to the media today, Monday, August 4, 2025, Percassi revealed that Atalanta made a pact with Lookman last year after turning down a €20 million offer from Paris Saint-Germain.
The agreement, he said, was based on mutual trust and a long-term vision for the player’s career.
“The pact with Lookman was made one year ago when we rejected €20m from PSG,” Percassi explained.
“We told him: we’ll let you leave in 2025 for a super top club and not in Italy.”
This statement appears to rule out any potential move to Serie A rivals, including Inter Milan, who have recently been linked with the Nigerian international.
Despite the speculation, Percassi emphasized that the final decision remains with Atalanta, “Now, the situation [with Inter] is different… and as always, it’s us deciding.”
Lookman has played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s recent success, including his historic hat-trick in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final.
With his contract running through 2026, the club remains firmly in control of his future, reinforcing its stance on developing talent while remaining competitive at the highest level.
