A deadly fuel tanker explosion rocked the Dan Magaji area of Zaria on Monday morning, leaving several people feared dead and vehicles reduced to charred wrecks.
Eyewitness Daiyabu Hamisu told SaharaReporters that the tragedy struck near Rochas Foundation School when two fuel-laden tankers collided and rammed into two smaller passenger vehicles.
“All the occupants of the passenger vehicles were engulfed in the inferno,” Hamisu recounted, adding that only one person was seen staggering out of the wreckage with severe burns.
Firefighters, Federal Road Safety Corps officials, and police officers rushed to the scene, battling to douse the raging flames and rescue victims.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as he did not respond to repeated calls or WhatsApp messages.
