Amaechi’s remarks add a new twist to the ongoing debate over the February 2023 election results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner, announcing that the APC secured 231,591 votes in Rivers State, while the Labour Party (LP) scored 175,071. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 88,468 votes.

Meanwhile …… Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed that if elected Nigeria’s president in 2027, he will amend the constitution and eradicate corruption within his first month in office.

Speaking during an X Space session titled Weekend Politics, Amaechi said that if he fails to end corruption within that period, he will resign from the position.

‘’If I become President, I will change the constitution from indigeneship to citizenship. If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation.” he reportedly said

The former APC chieftain also alleged that some influential Nigerians regularly visit the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to steal funds.

On the nation’s electoral process, Amaechi labelled Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the worst Chairman the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ever had.

“I challenged the present FCT Minister, Wike, to take a walk along the streets of Port Harcourt, which will reveal who is healthy and who the people actually loved.

It enrages me that those very influential among the ruling class visit CBN often to steal money. If they could use all the money they are pocketing to improve security and the economy, Nigeria wouldn’t be in such dire straits today.

The worst INEC chairman in the history of Nigeria is Mahmood Yakubu,” he said.

However, he stated that if elected president, he would not reinstate the fuel subsidy. Instead, he pledged to channel the savings directly into the pockets of Nigerians.

“I will not reverse the removal of subsidies. I will instead direct the funds into the pockets of Nigerians, not the elite” he noted
