Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has reacted to speculation linking Marc Casado with a transfer to the Premier League or another European club.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has suggested that he expects Marc Casado to remain at the club despite widespread interest in his signature.
As has been the case in recent seasons, the Catalan giants have faced certain difficulties when it comes to registering new players for La Liga.
Although they appear to be in a better position than previous years, there remains clear benefits of cashing in on a homegrown talent, Casado fitting that profile.
In recent days, the Spain international has been heavily linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
There is also said to be interest from developing Serie A outfit Como, who are managed by former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Flick addresses Casado speculationDespite talk of some clubs being prepared to bid in excess of £25m for the La Masia academy graduate, it appears that Flick would prefer to retain the centre-midfielder’s services.
At a press conference on Friday, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Flick said: “I spoke with Marc Casado, I don’t see him wanting to leave the team, nor do I think I want that either.
“The season is long, and we want to achieve everything”.
Why did Casado sale become a possibility?Last season, Casado made a total of 36 appearances in all competitions, seven of which were starts in the Champions League as Barcelona reached the semi-finals.
However, a ligament injury kept him out for a large chunk of the closing months of the campaign, subsequently seeing other players step up in his place.
Casado remains as an unused substitute last weekend as Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 victory over Mallorca as they started their La Liga title defence in style.
Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Fermin Lopez were viewed as the midfield three with Gavi chosen as first choice to be introduced in the second half.
Nevertheless, Flick has already alluded to the amount of matches that Barcelona will need to play if they want to win every competition in 2025-26, and Casado will inevitably be handed regular minutes if he stays put.
