We are officially in uncharted territory with the Kansas City Chiefs, as Patrick Mahomes has started a season 0-2 for the first time in his career.
Given that the Chiefs have been the gold standard in the NFL for the past five or so years, this start to the 2025 season is rather unsettling.
Some are selling their Kansas City stock after the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but others are holding their position because of Mahomes, Andy Reid, and the weapons that are expected to come back.
For NFL.com’s Jeffri Chadiha, he has full confidence that come playoff time, Kansas City will have booked its ticket.
“The Chiefs haven’t been 0-2 since 2014, which was back when quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a freshman at Texas Tech,” Chadiha writes. “It’s fair to wonder if Kansas City will dig itself into an early hole that could make winning a 10th straight AFC West crown a real question. On the other hand, there shouldn’t be any mystery about whether this is still a playoff team. The Chiefs will be there when the postseason starts.”

Have Chiefs earned benefit of the doubt?I think so, but with each passing week, that doubt grows.
Granted, Kansas City has played two good football teams in the Los Angeles Chargers and the Eagles, but in years gone by, they would have found a way to win both. It is also worth noting that both have been by one score, so the Chiefs aren’t getting blown out.
But last year, the Chiefs were bulletproof in one-score games. Now they aren’t.
The law of averages was always going to catch up with them, and who knows, had Travis Kelce held onto that red zone pass and the Chiefs scored a touchdown, maybe we would be having a different conversation.
But right now, while the rest of the NFL world is nervous for the Chiefs, I hold firm that they will turn it around.
