Enzo Fernández has returned from the Argentina squad to Chelsea following a swell in his Knee which he suffered while on duty with his national team.
The Argentine football federation confirmed that the Chelsea midfielder is sidelined with an inflammation in his right knee. However, it is not certain as how serious the issue is, as the plan always was to rest Fernandez for the upcoming friendly against Puerto Rico on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old is said to have played through pain for the Blues this season, featuring in every Premier League game so far. However, the injury to Fernandez could be a big blow for Chelsea going into the rest of the season especially with the absence of Cole Palmer.
Enzo Fernández joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Benfica for a British-record transfer fee of around £106.8 million, following his outstanding performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he helped Argentina lift the trophy and won the tournament’s Young Player Award.
Since his arrival, Enzo has become a central figure in Chelsea’s midfield, known for his exceptional passing range, composure under pressure, and ability to control the tempo of the game. Despite Chelsea’s inconsistent form during his early months, Enzo’s technical quality and leadership stood out as he adapted quickly to the Premier League’s intensity.
