iPhone Fold to use a mixture of materials for its frame

Next year, Apple is rumored to finally be launching its first foldable iPhone, which we’re calling iPhone Fold for simplicity’s sake.

According to a new investor note by Jeff Pu, a rather prolific source of Apple-related information, the iPhone Fold will use a combination of titanium and aluminum in its frame.

That’s interesting because the Pro iPhones had recently gone from stainless steel to titanium a while ago, and then switched back to aluminum, the original iPhone frame material, this year in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

A previous rumor by Ming-Chi Kuo, another analyst very connected with Apple’s supply chain in Asia, claimed that the iPhone Fold’s frame would be exclusively made from titanium, while the hinge would use both titanium and aluminum. Either one of these people misunderstood, or Apple has changed its mind in the meantime.

The iPhone Fold is expected to sport a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch main folding screen. It will allegedly lack Face ID and will have Touch ID instead. iOS 27, coming next year, is said to have a huge focus on adding new features specifically for the iPhone Fold’s unique (among iPhones) form factor.
