Nigerian music stars Fireboy DML and Asake have reached a major career milestone as their hit single Bandana has officially been certified Gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The certification means the song has surpassed 500,000 units in combined sales and streams across the US, a strong sign of Afrobeats’ growing influence and staying power in one of the world’s biggest music markets.
For Fireboy DML, this marks his second Gold record in the US, following the huge international success of Peru, which also earned a remix featuring Ed Sheeran. The achievement further strengthens his standing as one of Afrobeats’ most successful global voices.
The moment is equally historic for Asake, as Bandana becomes the first song in his catalogue to earn an RIAA Gold plaque. The talented singer, who has built a reputation for dominating charts with his energetic blend of Afrobeats, Fuji, and Amapiano, adds another major international win to his fast-growing résumé.
Originally released in 2022 as part of Fireboy’s Playboy album rollout, Bandana quickly exploded into a cultural moment. It topped Nigeria’s TurnTable charts for seven weeks and became a fan favourite thanks to Fireboy’s smooth delivery paired with Asake’s street-influenced sound.
With this new certification, Fireboy DML and Asake continue the run of Bandana as one of Afrobeats’ most impactful global collaborations, highlighting just how far the genre and its leading stars have reached.
