Yakubu Wudil has criticized President Tinubu’s decision to rename the University of Maiduguri after the late Muhammadu Buhari.
While acknowledging the gesture was made in good faith, Wudil said a newer institution like the Federal University of Transportation in Daura would have been more appropriate.
He stressed that long-established universities like UNIMAID carry historic identities that should remain untouched.
“President Tinubu has renamed the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri. I believe this was done in good faith.
However, I wish he had chosen to rename the Federal University of Transportation in Daura instead.
