Critics have described the development as another example of Nigeria’s reckless political culture, where public officials flaunt questionable wealth in cash handouts, even as millions of citizens grapple with biting hunger, unemployment, and inflation.

A netizen, Daniel Pablo, wrote on Facebook: “This is why Nigeria can never work.”

King Mathew said: “This is the time for EFCC to show workings but no they’re wait for yahoo boys with laptops and iphones. Nonsense”

Meanwhile, in May, a federal lawmaker revealed the staggering amounts of public funds Nigerian lawmakers received for so-called “constituency projects.”

The lawmaker revealed that significantly more funds had been allocated to so-called ‘constituency projects’, often used to pad budgets, since President Bola Tinubu’s administration removed the fuel subsidy.

He claimed that no Senator in the country received less than N2 billion, while House of Representatives members pocketed a minimum of N1 billion each.

The lawmaker disclosed this at a public gathering in Osun State while addressing members of his constituency.

His statement ignited outrage over the deepening culture of corruption, impunity, and opaque spending in Nigeria’s legislative arm.
