Angel City FC said goodbye to star forward Alyssa Thompson, but her 19-year-old sister, Gisele Thompson, will remain with the club through 2029.
The team announced that the young defender has signed a new four-year contract. Thompson originally joined Angel City in 2024, just four days shy of her 18th birthday.

“I love LA and signing this new contract makes sense for me and my career,” Thompson said in a statement. “Everyone at Angel City has been so supportive of me since I joined the club. My teammates are like family, the coaches and staff have my back, and the fans are incredible. I love being able to play in front of my friends and family and I am excited that I am staying. I will do everything I can to bring championships to this city.”
Gisele Thompson’s contract news comes on the heels of her sister’s shocking departure from Angel City, which was reportedly secured on a $1.4 million deal to join the Women’s Super League’s Chelsea FC. The Athletic broke the news that the 20-year-old forward has already agreed to a five-year contract with the WSL side and traveled to London to undergo a medical ahead of the move Thursday.
A club source close to the team said it presented a compelling offer to keep Alyssa Thompson, but she wanted to follow this dream that may not come again. By garnering a high transfer fee in the process, the club maximized the value for Angel City and the opportunities it could bring in the future, the source added.
Since joining ACFC, Gisele Thompson has made 29 total appearances — 15 in 2024 and 14 this season. She leads the club with four assists on the year.

“Our path to championships is clear — invest in players who can deliver today, shape the future, and grow our culture,” ACFC sporting director Mark Parsons told The Athletic. “With Gisele, the incredible talent already on our roster, and our staff led by Alex Straus, we’re building something lasting at Angel City.”
In May, Thompson netted the first goal of her NWSL career, with an assist from her sister Alyssa. The Thompsons became the first siblings in league history to combine for a goal when Alyssa sent in a left-footed cross that Gisele buried in the 22nd minute. Angel City went on to edge the Washington Spirit 4-3, securing its third win of the season.
The duo also made history by being only the third pair of sisters called up to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster. Gisele Thompson has four caps with the senior USWNT squad, including 90 minutes in a friendly against Colombia this April.
Off the field, the Thompson sisters have built a significant portfolio of endorsement and sponsorship deals. In 2022, they became the first high school athletes to sign sponsorship deals with Nike, which included using their name, image and likeness. A year later, they signed a partnership agreement with the financial services company Stifel. In 2024, they took an equity stake in TOCA, a tech-driven soccer training facility, and signed a sponsorship agreement with BodyArmor. “Playing together (on the national team) is one of our dreams,” Alyssa said at the time of their BodyArmor deal. “Having the opportunity, hopefully, will be really fun.”

Additionally, they have had a partnership with beauty brand NYX Professional Makeup since 2025.
“We are thrilled that Gisele will be home in Los Angeles through 2029,” Parsons said in a statement. “At age 19, she is already one of the most exciting players in the world. We will continue to support her as she develops as a pro and elevates her game under the guidance of Alex Straus.
“She is making a significant impact on the club, and we look forward to many more years with her as part of the Angel City family.”
