Need to get rid of an old MacBook or iPhone? These folks can help
A new way to quickly dispose of your old Apple products is now launching in Canada.
SellYourMac.com (SYM), a service dedicated to reusing, repurposing, and recycling used Apple products, has announced the launch of SellYourMac for the Canadian market.
Founded in 2006 and a part of the Other World Computing (OWC) family, SYM Canada buys and sells used Apple computers, iPhones, iPads, and other Apple accessories. The company’s press release states that its mission is to help reduce e-waste sent to landfills and dumps, and to help individuals and organizations, such as schools and businesses, transition to newer technology by offsetting the high cost of new tech through the sale of old devices.
SYM claims that, because they restrict themselves to Apple products, their price point is “more accurate” than that of competitors, which allows the company to charge more for its devices.
SYM is part of a growing trend of companies that specialize in electronic recycling in Canada. Back in September, EcoATM expanded its operations into the Canadian market, opening up 13 kiosks within the GTHA. The Electronic Recycling Association, a Canadian non-profit, also began asking residents in Quebec to donate old electronics to one of its drop-off locations to refurbish the devices and donate them to schools.
