Arsenal player suffers injury during international break

Riccardo Calafiori is the latest player of Arsenal Football Club to join the club’s injury list as the 2024/25 season gradually gets to its end.

The Italian was part of the players that were invited for the quarter-final game against Germany in the UEFA Nations League. Ricardo Calafiori was substituted during the game which ended in a defeat for the Italians.

Renowned transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano confirmed in a tweet via his official X account on Friday, March 21, 2026. According to him, Calafiori left San Siro after he felt something in his knee.

What did Calafiori say about his injury?The Arsenal defender confirmed that he felt something but he couldn’t give any update until it was being checked.

What happened to Riccardo Calafiori?As Germany came forward, the defender stepped forward in an attempt to intercept a pass. However, his right leg slipped from underneath him, causing Calafiori to heavily fall to the floor and land on his knee. After receiving treatment, though, he was able to continue and went on to play the entity of the match.

Italy’s head coach, Spaletti also confirmed that they are yet to ascertain the extent of the injury.

ā€œā€˜We still don’t know if he’s injured. Ricky feels something strange at his knee but we still don’t know.ā€

Italy are back in action for the second leg on Sunday, facing Germany in Dortmund for a place in the semi-finals.
