A Singapore fund management hire leads today’s collection of real estate personnel moves from around Asia with CapitaLand Investment adding a former Blackstone executive to lead its alternatives efforts. Also making the list are senior promotions at a European fund manager and a Japanese investment manager.
CapitaLand Investment announced on 18 November that it has appointed Kishore Moorjani as chief executive of the alternatives division of its private funds unit where he will lead the company’s investment in alternatives, including credit strategies, insurance solutions, secondaries and private equity. Moorjani joins CapitaLand after founding LXA, a residential mortgage asset manager which he led until this month. From 2012 through 2021 Moorjani was head of tactical opportunities for Asia at Blackstone.
Joelin Ma has been promoted to senior director with the real estate team at APG Asset Management in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Ma is taking her step up after more than 11 years at the Dutch pension fund manager and follows Brian Hung being named head of APG’s real estate team for Asia Pacific earlier this month. As part of her role at APG, Ma also serves on the boards of Extra Space Asia Self Storage, data centre operator OneAsia Network and Shanghai commercial developer Chongbang Group.
Nomura Real Estate Master Fund announced on 20 November that Go Hiramatsu has been promoted to director and managing executive officer of the private fund management department at its manager, Nomura Real Estate Asset Management, in addition to his parallel role as director and managing executive officer in charge of the company’s overseas business division. Hiramatsu is set to take on his new role from 1 December after having served as general manager of the private fund management department.
Singapore-based fund manager Aquilius Investment Partners said this past week that it has appointed Martin Yung as managing director and head of private equity secondaries where he will lead the company’s recently opened Hong Kong office. In the same announcement, Aquilius, which recently raised a $1.1 billion Asia Pacific real estate secondaries fund, also announced it has hired Patrick Qian, also a Harbourvest alum, as a principal based in the Hong Kong office.
Zhi Li has joined the growing team at JD Property in Shanghai as an executive director with the investment and fund management division of the fund manager. Li joins the unit of mainland e-commerce giant JD.com after more than five years with the logistics investment division of China Vanke. The University of Southern California graduate spent more than a decade at Vanke before joining JD Property.
Tokyo-listed real estate firm Dear Life announced its proposed board of directors on 21 November including four new directors, including Haruka Suzuki (pictured), executive officer, general manager of the company’s real estate unit 1 and Katsuya Karasuyama, an executive officer and general manager with the company’s design department as well as Yasuhiro Takehara and Hiroyuki Kimura. The new slate of directors is set to be voted on by shareholders on 23 December.
Alvin Leung has joined Colliers in Hong Kong as a senior director with the property consultancy. In his new role Leung leads Colliers project consultancy services in the city, as the division assists developers and investors with sales and marketing for development projects. Prior to taking on his new role, Leung served as head of investment and asset management with local property firm Lofter Group for more than three years, according to his LinkedIn profile.
James (Yong Joo) Kim has been named chief global development and operations officer with the UK’s Kew Green Hotels after having served as interim chief executive officer of the company for more than a year. Kim takes on his permanent role at Kew Green while continuing to serve as president of Siamese and Kew Green Company, a Bangkok-based joint venture of the UK firm, according to his LinkedIn profile.
