Barnsley coach clears the air on Kelechi Nwakali situation

The manager of Barnsley Conor Hourihane has denied that he asked Kelechi Nwakali to leave the club before the 2025 transfer window closes.

Hourihane was speaking after one of Barnsley training session when he comfirmed that Kelechi Nwakali has not been sacked by the club. According to him, the news of the Nigeria getting sacked by the club is untrue but a figmentnt of someone’s imagine.

He expressed his shock after he was asked if the story of Nwakali being sacked but he also confirmed that the Nigerian is on the list of those players that might leave the club before the transfer window closes. However, Barnsley are yet to release any statement concerning the future of the Nigerian.

Nwakali, who joined the Reds in August 2024 on a three-year deal, has been left out of Hourihane’s squad throughout the summer and has not featured in any of the club’s pre-season or early competitive fixtures.

His absence, initially attributed to a delayed return following a family matter in Nigeria. However time will tell if Nwakali will remain at Barnsley before the transfer window closes.
