Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the appointment of Kasper Hjulmand as its new head coach who is coming in to replace Erik Ten Hag.
Ten Hag was terminated with less than two months in charge of the former Bundesliga Champions after he failed to hit the ground running at the start of the season.
The Danish international signed a two-year deal on Monday, September 8, 2025, which will expire in the summer of 2027. Kasper Hjulmand will come into Bayer Leverkusen with a wealth of experience from when he was the head coach of Denmark.
In 2021, he and his team reached the semi-finals of the European Championships, where the Danes narrowly lost to England in extra time. Following the 2-0 defeat against Germany in the Round of 16 at EURO 2024.
He expressed his excitement on his new role on the club’s website.

This impression has been strengthened over the past few days, It is an honour to be entrusted with such a team. After outstanding successes in the past, I am very motivated by the task of shaping the future of Bayer 04 Leverkusen with both proven and exciting new players.”
Hjulmand’s first game is against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, September 12, 2025, as they look forward to their first win of the season.
