Several worshippers were killed, and others injured, at Gamborun Market in Maiduguri on Wednesday when an explosive device detonated inside a mosque.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed that the blast tore through part of the mosque, instantly killing some worshippers and leaving others with varying degrees of injuries.
Zagazola explained that traders and residents in the area were seen fleeing the scene as thick smoke billowed from the mosque, while others attempted to assist victims before emergency responders arrived.
However, emergency responders were seen rushing to the scene, while security operatives cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties and conduct a preliminary assessment of the situation.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of fatalities and injured persons had not been officially confirmed, leaving residents and traders in fear and shock.
