Daura, Katsina state – The remains of ex-Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari were laid to rest at his residence in Daura, his hometown in Katsina state, at about 5:50 PM on Tuesday, July 15.

Buhari died in London, United Kingdom (UK) at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, following an illness.

Legit.ng reports that the body of the 82-year-old statesman, which left the United Kingdom earlier on Tuesday, July 15, was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina by President Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, Buhari’s first daughter, Fatima, arrived at her father’s home in Daura on Tuesday, July 15, in tears.

Fatima looked very sad and heartbroken and was seen crying quietly as she was comforted by close friends and relatives. Some mourners also shed tears.

Ex-President Buhari’s funeral prayer, which was observed at the helipad area of the former leader’s hometown, was led by the chief imam of Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu.

Buratai added:

“His legacy in defence is still bearing fruit.”In the same vein, Antonio Guterres, United Nations (UN) secretary-general wrote on his verified X (formerly) handle:

“Deeply saddened by passing of former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.”He played a key role for regional peace and security and was a strong advocate for multilateral and regional cooperation.”My heartfelt condolences to his family, the Government and the people of Nigeria.”Amina Mohammed, UN deputy secretary-general, also paid tribute, noting Buhari’s role in promoting national unity and Nigeria’s position on the global stage.

She said:

“Despite international pressures, Nigeria made key progress under his leadership.”Katsina governor shed tears over BuhariEarlier, Legit.ng reported that Dikko Radda, governor of Katsina state, fought back tears as he stood alongside other prominent individuals at the graveside of Buhari in Daura.

The governor, dressed in native attire, stood close to the gurney bearing the body at Buhari’s burial site.
