ByteDance’s AI app Doubao has surpassed 100 million daily active users, becoming its latest flagship product to hit this mark. Notably, it achieved this growth with the lowest marketing spend among ByteDance’s billion-DAU apps.
According to exclusive information obtained by 36Kr, ByteDance’s AI application Doubao has surpassed 100 million daily active users (DAU), becoming another flagship app in ByteDance’s portfolio to cross the 100-million-user milestone.
Doubao officially launched in August 2023, earlier than domestic peers such as Kimi and Tencent Yuanbao. Insiders note that among ByteDance’s apps exceeding 100 million DAU, Doubao has achieved its growth with the lowest marketing spending.
As Doubao rises, competition has intensified. Tencent Yuanbao reportedly spent nearly RMB 6 billion (about USD 828 million) on marketing in the first half of the year. ByteDance’s cloud arm Volcano Engine has also been named the exclusive AI cloud partner of the 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala.
