Canelo Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 knockouts) will defend his WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles in the contest. Alvarez has a tentative fight with Terence Crawford this fall with a victory.
William Scull (23-0, 9 knockouts) will put up his IBF middleweight title in the contest.

Badou Jack vs Norair Mikaelian
PREFIGHT: Mikaelian in a white robe with black trim and matching gloves. Jack is out in a white robe with gold trim and matching gloves.
Round 1: Both men out in orthodox and Mikaelian lands a stiff jab right away. Mikaelian looks quite large compared to Jack. Neither man committing to much early, just feeling things out. Both men leaning heavily into their jabs. Jack put his to the body a couple times. Mikaelian also tests the midsection. Jack looks much quicker in there and he’s bouncy, moving around Mikaelian with ease right now. Mikaelian looks stiff. But neither man landing anything meaningful so far. Jack doing almost nothing offensive down the stretch so I guess Mikaelian takes the opening round.

Round 2: Mikaelian back to the jab, high and low. He’s not the most dynamic boxer but he’s going to work technically. Jack starting to jab back. Jack puts a pair of hooks to the body when they get in close. Jack a little more active right now as he circles in the center of the ring. He’s clearly so much quicker with his feet than Mikaelian, despite being 41. Sneaky right hand from Jack as Mikaelian now looking to counter. And Mikaelian lands a good right hand! Jack is fine but the counter came in clean and is the best punch of the fight so far.

Round 3: Mikaelian with a nice right hand to kick this round off. And he gets Jack against the ropes for a minute and unleashes a flurry of body shots. Mikaelian opening up his offense now. Jack coming forward more now and lands to the body. Mikaelian fires back. Both men picking up their pace as they settle into this fight. Jack with a big right hand over the top that gets Mikaelian to clinch. Mikaelian tries to get it back before the end of the round but can’t.

Round 4: Both men settling in. Jabs still the primary weapons but more power shots are flowing now. Mikaelian with a nice right hand over the top. Lands a body shot into a right hand as they get in close. Mikaelian punching in combination and landing much more now. Jack’s offense fell off here as Mikaelian locks in. Jack loops a big right hand. Exchange of punches. Jack’s footwork has fallen off and Mikaelian is now finding the mark much more. Jack digging into the body.

Round 5: Mikaelian works the body again. Jack coming forward now, changing the energy. Jack needs to dig himself back into this because Mikaelian throwing in combination constantly now. Jack getting out-worked now. Mikaelian throwing freely and Jack returning one or two at most. Jack lands a left. Then a big right. His best punch in a minute. NICE right hand from Jack. And another. Real offense from Jack now which he desperately needed. Mikaelian looks a little uncomfortable in there after that.

Round 6: Mikaelian comes out firing. Digging in after a bad finish to the last round. But Jack triples up the right hand and big shot gets Mikaelian’s attention. He’s still much faster when he commits. And Mikaelian looking a little more wary right now. And Jack walks Mikaelian into another short snappy right hand. Mikaelian getting touched up a little bit but he keeps throwing back. Both men dig the body.

Round 7: Jack might be taking over now. He comes out stalking as Mikaelian retreats and tries to get his jab going again. Jack can’t take advantage of the momentum though and they settle in again. Jack digging the body more this round and it’s getting a reaction from Mikaelian. Mikaelian with a right hand and they clinch and Jack hits. Jack showing some veteran savvy in there. Mikaelian lands to the body but Jack combo to the body.

Round 8: Mikaelian told his corner he’s getting tired. He did take this fight on short notice so that could be a problem. Also, the numerous body shots he’s eaten.
Mikaelian opens up with volume, snapping the jab. Jack taking his time this round and Mikaelian taking advantage to score. They clinch and Jack lands a bunch of shots while Mikaelian holds the head. Jack keeps hitting and the ref warns Mikaelian. And then Jack lands a big right hand on the next exchange. Jack coming on strong at the end of the round now. Again, a veteran move to steal rounds. Jack lands hard to the body and then Mikaelian lunges badly with a hook and misses, allowing Jack to land a short left hook at the bell.

Round 9: Jack with more pep in his step to start the round, coming forward with combinations, backing Mikaelian up. Clinch and Jack digs to the body. Mikaelian is bad in the clinch. Another clinch. Both men getting a little more tired in there. Jack with a solid counter as Mikaelian steps in. Mikaelian with the volume jab. Another clinch and Jack lands some more shots. Mikaelian again gets the warning for holding the head. Jack to the body. Mikaelian lands a very good right hand over the top as they clinch. Then another one when they get inside. We’re going full roughhouse tactics now.

Round 10: Scorecards could be all over the place. Jack lands a big right hand to the body and Mikaelian didn’t like that. Both men stepping up the power now. Another clinch and Jack punches through it what Mikaelian holds the head again. They get after it inside and then clinch. Break and fight. This is getting gritty. Both men tired and fighting hard. Jack attacking now as Mikaelian moves away. Good left hook. Mikaelian against the ropes and eats a right hand. Boxing in the tire now, both men with small shots. Nice left hand from Jack. He gets warned for a shot behind the head inside. Body shot from Jack.

Round 11: Truly have no idea how the judges see this one. The broadcast has it 96-4 for Mikaelian. Neither fighter should feel confident.
And both men stepping on the gas. Nice right hand from Mikaelian but Jack right back inside. Another right from Mikaelian. He’s taking some deep breaths. Another clinch and punch from Jack. Mikaelian with another right hand but Jack with another body shot. Mikaelian not defending himself well when they are in tight. Mikaelian clearly exhausted now, too. But he’s not backing down. Labored punches from Mikaelian as he keeps trying. Jack taps him for it. Another clinch and Mikaelian keeps not tying up and letting the free hand hit him.

Round 12: This could be the difference in the fight. Must win round for both men. And they come out with zip. Jack advancing. Mikaelian putting shots back at him. Neither man with big power, but a lot of combination work. Mikaelian with a left hook up top. Jack with a right. Jack charging as Mikaelian moves. Nice left with Jack and a head butt that went unnoticed as they came together. Another clinch and Jack with a BIG right hand as Mikaelian is being lazy and letting him swing. He’s not tying Jack up and getting punished for it. That snapped his head, man. Mikaelian dead tired but powering through and lands a good combination. Jack lands back. Inside and both men letting the hands go with short time. Mikaelian and Jack both land at the bell.

Bruno Surace vs Jaime Munguia
PREFIGHT: Surace comes out in a white robe with white shorts and gold trim, with light blue gloves. Munguia out in gold shorts with a red, green, and gold robe, wearing gold gloves.
Round 1: Both men out in orthodox. Surace looks to be the naturally bigger man in there. Both men probing jabs early. They have some familiarity with each other, of course. Munguia holding the center early. He’s a little more active at this point, but Surace has looped a few right hands in. That’s the punch that put Munguia down the first time, so he’s going to look for it. Munguia keeps walking him down and putting the jab down the pipe. Oh, good combo from Surace. Munguia returns fire digging to the body. Neither man countering much. Munguia lands a hook to the body just before the bell

Round 2: Munguia’s corner tells him he lost the first round and that he needs to pick it up. Munguia comes out with pep but Surace is moving around him well. Surace lands a good right to the body. Munguia responds with a combination up top a moment later. Surace snaps in a jab. One at a time for both men at this point. Surace fires a nice right hook in over the guard. Then a double jab into the right hand. Surace splits the guard with an uppercut. Munguia can’t find a good range so far but does finally get a body shot in.

Round 3: Munguia’s corner giving him plenty of advice to avoid Surace’s right hand. It’s been the best weapon early. Munguia comes out and mashes the body as he got Surace into the corner. Munguia starting to target the body frequently now. Surace sneaks a timed right hand over the ducking Munguia. Then rips the body. Munguia being more active this round though. But every time he starts to build, Surace stamps him with a right hand. Nasty body shot from Munguia. Munguia upping his output this round and takes his first one.

Round 4: Munguia back to the body early. Surace has not done a good job of adjusting to that yet. Surace tries for a doubled jab but Munguia slips. Munguia not letting Surace bring his power to bear right now, limiting the engagements. Surace sneaks a jab in. Right hand for Surace then a jab. Munguia’s output is slower this round than the third. Surace lands a nice dipping right hand counter. And then a big counter a moment later, left hook into uppercut.

Round 5: Munguia is having success when he’s opening up, but the power and counters of Surace seem to have Munguia hesitant from overextending. Munguia comes out this round and puts Surace into the corner right away, but can’t land anything. Munguia is getting Surace into the corner repeatedly but simply doesn’t follow up on those opportunities. He’s throwing one shot and defending, not trying to get countered. Munguia commits to a right hand but Surace gets away from it. Surace’s pace slowing this round as he is really targeting counters and Munguia isn’t giving many opportunities. Nice combo from Munguia when he gets Surace to the ropes, ripping the body. He should get back to that.

Round 6: Munguia back to the center and opens with a combination as Surace bounces away from him. Munguia needs to keep up with plan of attacking. Starting to get his offense going and he’s opening up with Surace gets to the ropes. Not big combos, but power shots and he SMASHES a body shot into Surace. Probably the best punch of the night from either man. Good right hand down the pipe from Munguia as Surace got lazy on his exit. Munguia starting to look confident in there now, and he’s loading up on some of these shots. Surace isn’t making him respect him right now and that can’t last forever.

Round 7: Surace needs to make some adjustments now as this isn’t going his way anymore. He can’t wait forever to land the one perfect shot. Munguia with a power combo early into the guard of Surace. Nice body shot from Surace lands as he feints high and Munguia covers up. Few jabs from Surace. Munguia opens up with offense but mostly hits the arms. Action has slowed considerably from both men. Neither willing to force anything. Genuine staring contest for 30 seconds here. Munguia lands a left then gets Surace to the corner and fires off a big flurry while Surace covers up and waits.

Round 8: Surace with a looping right immediately at the start of the round. He needs to pick it up and Munguia seems to agree, pressuring in hard. Body shot for Munguia as Surace slides out. Nice double jab to the right from Surace. Again he comes with a double jab but Munguia slips the right this time. Surace having success with the double jab. Munguia keeps backing him up at will though. Munguia to the body again. His best work is there. Surace gets a combination into the guard to back Munguia up. Munguia really upping the foot pressure and Surace is not trying anything new.

Round 9: More of the same to start this round. But Surace changes levels and lands a nice right to the body. Munguia keeps coming forward and puts Surace into the corner and unloads a flurry. Surace punches his way off but Munguia has the guard high. Then Munguia rips the body and puts Surace back to the ropes again. Munguia taking over this fight with smart tactics and more offense. Surace needs to do stuff because he’s standing there for long stretches waiting. Surace misses a right hand. He’s far too reliant on that weapon and Munguia is looking for it at every turn. Munguia with a combination. Nice right hand counter for Surace lands high but Munguia eats it.

Round 10: Surace needs to sweeps the remaining rounds or find a KO. And he swings for one early but missed. Munguia right back to work backing him up again. Surace slips an uppercut and then a right hook over the top that grazes Munguia. Then a nice body shot for Surace. This is the change he needed: trying. Munguia gets him to the corner and unloads a body shot combo though, that’s his bread and butter. Decent right hand slips in from Surace. Body shot from Munguia. Solid work from both men. Munguia keeps coming forward but Surace is landing back this round. Munguia digs the body again. Surace might be hurt to the body. His elbows are LOW now.

Round 11: Both corners are imploring their fighters to throw in combination. And Surace comes out firing with intent as Munguia keeps marching him down. Munguia is relentless with his pressure and Surace can’t back him up. Now big combo from Munguia as Surace keeps retreating. Munguia upping his output now. Surace swings a big couple shots. He’s trying to mix things up but Munguia defends and then pounds the body. Munguia simply out-working him at this pace and gets another combo along the ropes.

Round 12: Surace needs a finish. But Munguia is marching forward. And he keeps thumping Surace to the body. Munguia’s defense has been exceptional tonight. But he lands a low blow that stops the action. That might be legal? Eh, doesn’t matter. This is formulaic at this point. Munguia lands a right hand up top. Munguia bullying Surace around the ring and peppering the body. Surace is out of ideas. He only had like four of them to begin with and they didn’t do the job. Terrific redemption performance from Munguia.
