Keep track of every Championship signing and departure during the 2025 summer transfer window with Sports Mole’s comprehensive guide.
Just over a month has passed since the summer transfer window first opened for business, as clubs across the globe were blessed with an exceptional registration period from June 1 to June 10, allowing teams competing at the Club World Cup to strengthen their ranks.
However, the 32 teams scrapping for success in the USA were not the only ones permitted to add to or indeed trim their ranks, and there was plenty of movement both in and out of the English Championship before the temporary pause.
Fast-forward to July, and there have now been over 120 new signings confirmed in the Championship, while the number of departures is approaching the 200 mark.
At the time of writing, the three most expensive transfers are believed to be Josh Coburn’s move to Millwall, Zeidane Inoussa’s switch to Swansea City and Kaine Kesler-Hayden’s transfer to Coventry City.
The 24 Championship clubs will be keen to complete the majority of their business before the new season kicks off in August, but they can make additions to their respective squads until the September 1 deadline.

BIRMINGHAM CITYBack in the Championship after a brief absence from the second tier, Birmingham City took League One by storm last season and should immediately have one eye on a potential playoff push in the 2025-26 campaign.
The 2010-11 EFL Cup winners have hardly made an explosive start to the transfer market, though; two of their three ‘new arrivals’ were two players whose loan deals from the 2024-25 season have been converted into permanent switches.
Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Alfons Sampsted have penned long-term deals at St Andrew’s, arriving for £1.5m and £1.7m respectively, while centre-back Phil Neumann has arrived on a free transfer from German outfit Hannover 96.
Birmingham have also banked £3m by selling 18-year-old Romelle Donovan to Brentford, and at the other end of the experience scale, veteran striker Lukas Jutkiewicz – double Donovan’s age at 36 – has now hung up his boots.

BLACKBURN ROVERSThe agony of finishing seventh in the 2024-25 Championship season will not be lost on Blackburn Rovers fans or indeed players, who came so close yet to so far to breaching the playoff positions last year.
However, the 1994-95 Premier League winners’ exile from the top flight will continue for one more season, one in which Valerien Ismael will oversee a full campaign in charge at Ewood Park for the first time.
The Frenchman has previous when it comes to guiding teams into the top six, having unexpectedly taken Barnsley to the Championship playoffs in the 2020-21 season, and he has already bolstered Rovers’ midfield ranks in the summer window.

BRISTOL CITYA promising 2024-25 campaign ended in disappointing fashion for Bristol City, as they were comfortably beaten 6-0 on aggregate in the Championship playoff semi-finals by Sheffield United.
The Robins have since bid farewell to Liam Manning, who has joined fellow Championship club Norwich City, and have appointed Gerhard Struber as their new head coach on a three-year deal.
Bristol is the largest city in England yet to host Premier League football and Struber has arrived at Ashton Gate with high expectations, claiming that his new side are “ready for the next step”, although the 48-year-old has acknowledged that he is “not a dreamer”.

CHARLTON ATHLETICAfter five seasons in League One, Charlton Athletic have returned to the Championship for the 2025-26 campaign following their playoff triumph in Nathan Jones’s first season at the helm.
The Addicks finished fourth in the table with 85 points and edged past Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 on aggregate in the playoff semi-finals before beating Leyton Orient by the same scoreline in 90 minutes to win the final at Wembley Stadium.
The primary focus for Charlton this summer is to build a squad capable of surviving an immediate demotion back to the third tier, with Jones tasked with elevating his team to new heights in the second tier against stronger opposition.

COVENTRY CITYStill nursing the pain of another Championship playoff disappointment, Coventry City must now shift their attention to the 2025-26 season, where their ambition will be to go one better and finally reclaim a place in the Premier League.
Coventry accumulated 69 points from 46 Championship matches last season, winning 20, drawing nine and losing 17, to finish fifth in the table, before suffering a last-gasp playoff semi-final defeat to Sunderland 3-2 on aggregate.
After transforming the club from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls following his mid-season arrival, head coach Frank Lampard will be confident of steering the Sky Blues towards another top-six finish with a full campaign and his first summer transfer window under his belt.

DERBY COUNTYDerby County’s character was truly put to the test during the 2024–2025 season. The Rams looked like they were headed for an instant return to League One at one point, but John Eustace’s arrival in February brought about a resurgence.
The former Derby midfielder steadied the ship just in time, guiding the side to Championship safety by the narrowest of margins — surviving by a single point on the final day.
Eustace will be hoping to avoid another relegation battle by pushing on in his first full season as Derby boss, although he will need the tools to steer clear of the bottom three.
The Rams are still waiting to make their first signing of the summer transfer window, but they have seen several players depart, creating room for potential arrivals.
Derby will be keen to get additions through the door before they kick off the new Championship season in August, although they can continue their transfer business until the September 1 deadline.

HULL CITYThe 2024-25 season was a difficult one for Hull City, who narrowly managed to avoid relegation from the Championship by the skin of their teeth as they finished above Luton Town in the relegation zone on goal difference alone.
Despite only being appointed in December and guiding Hull from bottom of the table to safety, Ruben Selles was sacked at the end of the season, with Sergej Jakirovic since hired to lead the Tigers into the new campaign.
The new boss will be eager to sculpt the squad to his liking as Hull City aim to avoid another nail-biting relegation battle in 2025-26, meaning the Tigers are expected to dip into the market throughout the summer.

LEICESTER CITYAfter their demotion back to the Championship, Leicester City supporters will hope that they can bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, just as they managed to do so when they topped the second tier in 2023-24.
The club will have to compete in the division without talismanic striker Jamie Vardy, who ended his time at the King Power Stadium after a sensational 13-year spell with the Foxes, pulling on the shirt 500 times and scoring 200 goals.
Steve Cooper started the 2024-25 season as manager – having only replaced Enzo Maresca in the summer – but he was sacked and Ruud van Nistelrooy appointed in his stead, only for the Dutchman to lead the side to 18th place.
Van Nistelrooy has now been removed from his role, with candidates such as Sean Dyche said to be of interest to Leicester, and the next boss is likely to have a significant say on the Foxes’ summer business.

MIDDLESBROUGHMiddlesbrough ended their 2024-25 Championship season in disappointing fashion, with their 10th-placed finish marking a second consecutive campaign in which they have failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Though he initially showed immense promise as a young and developing coach, the club ultimately decided to part ways with Michael Carrick, who had been in charge of the team since October 2022.
Former Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has since been appointed in the Englishman’s place, and Boro will hope that the 42-year-old can bring the side to the top flight as he did with Luton in 2022-23, beating the odds despite being given a limited budget.
Edwards’s ability to reach the Premier League with Middlesbrough may be dependent on the club’s summer transfer window, with work needing to be done to compete with heavyweights such as Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League but have the benefit of parachute payments.

MILLWALLMillwall agonisingly missed out on a place in the Championship playoffs last season, as the Lions finished eighth and just two points adrift of the top eight.
Now looking ahead to 2025-26, Millwall will be eager to make a more successful push for promotion to the Premier League, meaning plenty of activity is expected in the transfer market.
The Lions have already seen a number of players depart the club since the end of last campaign, including forward Zian Flemming, who has made his loan move to Burnley a permanent transfer.
Millwall are expected to face further potential departures, with players such as Japhet Tanganga drawing attention, but Alex Neil will be hopeful of retaining his core players and strengthening in key areas to help build upon the foundations laid by the manager after joining in December 2024.

NORWICH CITYNorwich City had a largely underwhelming 2024-25 campaign as they finished 13th in the Championship table with 57 points, leaving the Canaries two points closer to the relegation zone than the playoff places.
Liam Manning has been appointed as Norwich’s permanent boss to lead them into the 2025-26 season, where the Canaries will be aiming to re-establish themselves as promotion contenders.
There will be plenty of work to be done for Norwich to achieve that goal, especially with Premier League clubs reportedly circling key players such as Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent.
Regardless of where the Canaries hold on to their stars, Norwich will have to be busy in the market to re-join the promotion race next season, meaning that this summer’s transfer window is of extreme importance for those at Carrow Road.

OXFORD UNITEDOxford United will be aiming to avoid another relegation battle in the Championship next season and establish in the division after earning promotion in 2023-24.
The U’s managed to secure their safety in the second tier last term after beating Sunderland 2-0 in late April with two games to spare, before ultimately ending the season four points and five places clear of the relegation zone in 17th place.
Fans can highlight the appointment of Gary Rowett in place of Des Buckingham as boss in December 2024 as the pivotal decision that led to the club’s survival, with the manager avoiding defeat in his first nine matches while achieving victory on five occasions.
Now that the 2024-25 season has ended, Rowett has the benefit of being able to plan for the campaign ahead with a full pre-season and summer transfer window, and he will be keen to replace the players that have left his squad for free with high-quality additions.

PORTSMOUTHPortsmouth fans surely expected their team to struggle in the Championship as a newly-promoted team last season, but they probably hoped to secure their first win in the competition before round 10.
Despite these early struggles, Pompey kept faith in John Mousinho and he delivered, saving Portsmouth from relegation as the team finished 16th in the standings.
The south coast side will be in no mood to rest on their laurels, as they look to consolidate and push on in the 2025-26 Championship season.
Pompey kicked off their summer business with the addition of highly-rated attacker Adrian Segeci, who has become the latest Australian to swap the A-League for the Championship, following Jacob Farrell, Hayden Matthews and Thomas Waddingham.
Having returned to pre-season training, Portsmouth will hope to recruit swiftly to give any new signings the time to work with the group before the new campaign gets underway in August.
With that said, Pompey do not need to rush into any panic signings, with the summer transfer window open until September 1.

PRESTON NORTH ENDAfter surviving by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the 2024-25 Championship season, Preston North End will be hoping to regain their stability in the second tier.
With just one game under their belt last term – a 2-0 home loss against Sheffield United – former manager Ryan Lowe unexpectedly parted ways with the club having decided with his family that he needed a break.
The Lilywhites appointed former Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom on August 20 when they were 23rd in the table after losing their first two matches, and with the team on a run of seven successive league defeats without scoring, the new head coach had his work cut out for him.
PNE eventually finished 20th with a total of 50 points, just one above 22nd-placed Luton Town, and if they are to get back on track given that they had ended the three previous campaigns in 13th, 12th and 10th, they will need to bolster their squad in the market.

QUEENS PARK RANGERSQueens Park Rangers may have another Championship season to look forward to, but they finished a mere seven points above the relegation zone in 2024-25, and a disappointing 12 short of the playoffs.
In fairness, the Hoops endured a tumultuous campaign that was fraught with injuries, and it is commendable that they achieved a mid-table finish despite their tough start to the term.
Adding to the strife, manager Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave in April amidst links to the head-coach vacancy at West Bromwich Albion, and the club saw out the season without their boss in the dugout.
Rangers have confirmed the appointment of ex-Rennes boss Julien Stephan now that Cifuentes has formally departed, and if they hope to make progress towards their long-term goal of promotion back to the Premier League, the new manager will need to be backed in the market.

SHEFFIELD UNITEDDespite getting off to a strong start when Tyrese Campbell opened the scoring, it was the same old heartbreak for Sheffield United when they lost 2-1 in the 2024-25 playoff final against Sunderland.
The Blades were hit with a sense of foreboding when a lead-doubling second was ruled out after a VAR check deemed the play offside, and they eventually conceded an equaliser with fewer than 15 minutes left on the clock.
As the pressure mounted at Wembley, the Black Cats then stunned their opponents by making the most of Anel Ahmedhodzic being temporarily off the pitch to fire home a stoppage-time winner courtesy of 19-year-old Tommy Watson.
Hoping to bounce back from the disappointment, Ruben Selles – having taken the hotseat after Chris Wilder parted ways with the club – will be keen to bolster the squad, especially considering that they came so close to earning promotion last season.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAYSheffield Wednesday endured another mixed season that saw them finish in the definition of mid-table: 12th place, nine points clear of the Championship’s drop zone, but disappointingly 10 short of the playoff spots.
Danny Rohl, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Hillsborough, would have been hoping for the freedom to make several additions to his first-team squad.
Instead, it was announced by the EFL on June 18 that they were enforcing a three-window transfer ban on the Owls, a result of exceeding 30 days of late payments.
Club owner Dejphon Chansiri had already been charged by the governing body for multiple breaches of the same subject area, and the Yorkshire giants now face a period of turbulence behind the scenes as they attempt to determine how they will move forward.
As it stands, high-profile names are being credited with an interest in a takeover bid, but nothing looks imminent on that front.

SOUTHAMPTONAs pitiful as Southampton’s 2024-25 Premier League campaign was, the Saints could head back down to the Championship with their heads held slightly higher than they might have been.
For a while, the South-coast side were at risk of taking Derby County’s unwanted title of the worst team to ever grace the Premier League, but in the last knockings of the season, they managed to surpass the Rams’ all-time low of 11 points from the 2007-08 season.
However, the Saints were still the worst of the worst in the top flight in 2024-25, where three different head coaches – Russell Martin, Ivan Juric and interim manager Simon Rusk – tried and failed to pull off a survival miracle at St Mary’s.
Now, former Lens and Reims coach Will Still is on a mission to guide Southampton back up to the big time at the first time of asking, and the Saints wasted no time in getting players both through the door and out of the door in the first window, which ran from June 1 to June 10.
As the second window gets underway, Sports Mole tracks all of Southampton’s summer transfer business.

STOKE CITYStoke City barely survived their tumultuous Championship campaign in 2024-25, and fans were faced with a rollercoaster of emotions when the club sacked manager Steven Schumacher just five games into the season before also parting ways with his replacement Narcis Pelach in December, and appointing current boss Mark Robins on New Years Day.
Robins would eventually steer the Potters out of the relegation zone, though the battle went all the way to matchday 46, when they ended the term 18th in the table with 51 points, just two above 22nd-placed Luton Town.
With the aim of finding stability in the second tier in 2025-26, Stoke will need to be active in the transfer window in order to equip the head-coach that saved them from the drop with a squad capable of competing week-in week-out at the required level.
Here, Sports Mole follows all of Stoke’s summer transfer incomings and outgoings.

SWANSEA CITYFollowing an unspectacular mid-table finish in the 2024-25 Championship season, Swansea City have not been shy to get the chequebook out in their pursuit of a coveted playoff place in 2025-26.
At the time of writing, the Swans have made the most expensive signing of any English second-tier club, splashing out £5m on 23-year-old attacker Zeidane Inoussa from Swedish outfit BK Hacken.
Inoussa’s tally of 11 goals in the 2024-25 season spells optimism for a Swansea side who only struck 51 times across 46 Championship matches last term, the second-fewest of any top-half team after Millwall’s 47.
Twenty-year-old striker Bobby Wales – a six-figure signing from Kilmarnock – may also be able to help in that regard, but the Swans have bid an emotional farewell to Joe Allen, who has decided to hang up his boots at the age of 35.

WATFORDA promising start to the 2024-25 campaign ended in disappointing fashion for Watford, who slipped out of playoff contention after winning only two of their final 12 Championship matches.
The Hornets finished 14th in the table with 57 points from 46 league games and 11 points behind the top six, leading to the decision to part ways with head coach Tom Cleverley.
Uruguayan manager Paulo Pezzolano has since taken the reins at Vicarage Road and he will be hoping to make a quick impression under the club’s owner Gino Pozzo, the man behind Watford’s regular manager churn.

WEST BROMWICH ALBIONWest Brom endured a turbulent season in the previous campaign, with several managerial changes throughout the season. Despite that, the Baggies finished ninth in the standings, four points adrift of a playoff place.
Ryan Mason has since taken over the reins at The Hawthorns, having decided it is the right time to leave his role as part of the Tottenham backroom staff.
Mason is now preparing for his first season in senior management, and he will be keen to get new additions through the door after West Brom saw several players depart at the end of last season.
Nat Phillips recently became the first addition of the Mason era, arriving from Premier League champions Derby County for an undisclosed fee.
West Brom will hope Phillips can kickstart a successful summer of transfer business, as they look to build a squad that can take the club back to the Premier League for the first time since 2020-21.
That said, Sports Mole brings you the latest on players leaving the Hawthorns and those heading in the opposite direction this summer.

WREXHAMFollowing Wrexham’s remarkable promotion from League One in 2024-25, the Welsh club will be competing in the second tier of the football pyramid for just the second time in their history, and for the first time since the 1970s.
The club have been on an upward trajectory ever since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took ownership of the team in 2020, with the side lingering in the fifth tier.
Since then, the Red Dragons have risen from relative obscurity having earned three consecutive promotions in the last three seasons, and they are now one step away from the Premier League.
Boss Phil Parkinson will first have to navigate the Championship in 2025-26 if they are to achieve the impossible and play top-flight football, but a fourth promotion is unlikely unless significant business is conducted.
Legendary striker Paul Mullin has been sent out on loan to Wigan, and the forward will undoubtedly need to be replaced if the Red Dragons have any ambitions of a successful campaign.
Here, Sports Mole tracks all of Wrexham’s summer transfer business.
