Crystal Palace have confirmed the loan signing of Ben Chilwell from Chelsea until the end of the season.

The left-back fell out of favour at the Blues following Enzo Maresca’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, making just one appearance for Chelsea in the EFL Cup this season, playing for 45 minutes against Barrow.

Overall, Chilwell made 107 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, registering 11 assists in that time. He also helped them to win the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

His signing eases some of the pressure on Oliver Glasner’s side after recent defensive injuries, with Chadi Riad recently suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

“I’m very excited to be here,” Chilwell said. “Crystal Palace are a club that’s going in a great direction.

“You look at the last few months, with the results and how the team’s playing, and it was a no-brainer to make the decision to come here.”

Chairman Steve Parish said: “Ben has experience at the highest level of European and international football. I’m delighted that he has joined us on loan, and we believe he will prove to be a great addition to the squad.”

Palace have also seen two outgoings on deadline day though, with midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp joining Celtic on loan for the remainder of the season, while Rob Holding has made the switch to Sheffield United until the end of 2024-25.
