Chinese automaker Geely on July 10 announced its entry into Poland, where it is already taking reservations for its EX5 electric crossover. The vehicle will go on sale in the next two months and has gained popularity in its home country. The Chinese auto giant plans to open its first showroom in Poland in October, with 10 more dealerships expected to be available to Polish customers by the end of next year. Poland is one of the most dynamic electric vehicle markets in Europe, where sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) rose by 54% and 79%, respectively, in May, according to figures provided by the company. Geely said it had sold more than 150,000 Galaxy E5 sport utility vehicles—the Chinese version of the EX5—as of June, less than a year after its launch last August. The model starts at 109,800 yuan (about $15,317) in China. [TechNode reporting, Geely release]
