The Dallas Cowboys needed to get the staff for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer taken care of and fast, and they are doing so. After bringing on Matt Eberflus to be the new defensive coordinator as well as three other defensive coaches, the Cowboys now have their new offensive coordinator in Klayton Adams, who spent the last two years as the offensive line coach for the Arizona Cardinals.

The coaching career for Adams goes back about 20 years. After graduating from Boise State, he was a graduate assistant there for two years (2005-2006). Adams would spend two years as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Western Washington before coaching at Sacramento State for two seasons as an offensive line coach. as well as an offensive tackles and tight ends coach. Next, Adams was the tight ends coach at San Jose State for two seasons.

Adams got an opportunity to coach for the Colorado Buffaloes starting in 2013. He would roam the sidelines there for six seasons in various roles that included working with the tight ends, running backs, offensive line, and even co-offensive coordinator duties. Then, Adams got the call to come to the NFL and coach on the staff for the Indianapolis Colts. He spent four seasons with the organization serving as an assistant offensive line coach for the first two years and then switching over to tight ends coach for the final two seasons before working for the aforementioned Cardinals.

The Cowboys have quarterback Dak Prescott, and although he’ll be coming back from a torn hamstring, he should be back to his old self in 2025. All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is one of the best at his position, and tight end Jake Ferguson will be motivated after a down year. After that, the Cowboys don’t have a whole lot as far as proven talent offensively, so they’ll need to add a few pieces in the NFL draft, and hopefully, veteran free agents.

Dallas should have a lot more creativity in their offense with Schottenheimer as the coach. Adams helped turn around the Cardinals offensive line. The Cowboys desperately need that, and that should help the running game also, which is something else they have to improve. It’ll be interesting to see what he and Adams come up with as far as the plan of attack for the Cowboys in 2025 and beyond.
