Chief Dele Momodu, a former presidential aspirant and veteran journalist, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to allegations of anti-democratic forces’ hijacking.
On July 17, 2025, he resigned in a letter to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s takeover by anti-democratic elements.
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East LGA of Edo State, Momodu expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time in the party. However, he lamented that the PDP had been hijacked by forces within and outside the party structure.
In the letter, Momodu stated:
“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Momodu, a prominent publisher of Ovation International, is now aligning with the ADC, a rising political coalition gaining traction among politicians dissatisfied with the PDP’s direction — especially as preparations heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His defection is seen as a major shift in Edo State’s political landscape and could signal more high-profile exits from the PDP in the coming months.
