The Oyo State Police Command has successfully retrieved a Toyota Corolla Sport that was recently stolen from an e-hailing driver in Ibadan during an armed robbery.
Police spokesperson Osifeso Adewale confirmed the recovery in a statement on Monday, noting that the car, bearing registration number LSR 893CX, was recovered following an anti-robbery operation.
He highlighted that the recovery comes amid a surge in attacks targeting ride-hailing drivers across the state.
“In recent weeks, there has been a concerning increase in incidents where armed robbers have targeted Uber drivers, stealing their vehicles and cash at gunpoint,” the statement read.
The case, initially handled by the Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters, was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Using surveillance and tracking methods, the Anti-Robbery Squad was able to trace and recover the stolen Toyota Corolla.
Oyo State’s Commissioner of Police hailed the recovery, describing it as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“The retrieval of this stolen vehicle underscores our proactive approach to tackling crime. We remain committed to protecting residents and ensuring that perpetrators of such acts are brought to justice,” he said.
The police command also called on the public to report any suspicious activities as it continues efforts to combat crime in the state.
