Eddie Howe, in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool vs Newcastle fixture, has shared the club’s final decision on the future of Alexander Isak.
Following weeks and days of speculation, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has responded to rumours surrounding the future of Alexander Isak at the club, stating his and the club’s final decision ahead of the fixture against Liverpool scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
Speaking ahead of the Magpies’ upcoming fixture, Howe made it clear that Isak remains central to his long-term plans at St. James’ Park. “He’s contracted to us. He’s our player… and yes, 100% I want him back in a Newcastle shirt,” Howe stated firmly, underlining both the club’s and his personal desire to keep hold of the forward.
Isak, who has become a key figure for Newcastle since his arrival, will, however, be absent from Monday’s game, although the reason for this decision was not revealed.
Howe admitted his disappointment: “My wish is that he would be playing on Monday. He won’t be, that’s regrettable. But I still wait for him.”
The 24-year-old has quickly endeared himself to the Newcastle faithful with his pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring instincts. While his absence is a setback for Howe’s side, the manager’s words suggest that the club sees Isak as integral to their ambitions moving forward.
It remains to be seen if Isak will consider remaining at the club for the 2025/2026 club football season in the Premier League following his statement, where he indicated that the trust between him and the club had been broken.
Eddie Howe also admitted that he had indeed discussed his future at the club way before the summer 2025 transfer window.
With Newcastle looking to build on their progress domestically and in Europe, Isak’s recovery and return could prove vital to their campaign.
