Doom: The Dark Ages and Forza Horizon 5 were also very popular this month
Circana and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada have revealed the best-selling games in Canada in May 2025.
Read on for the full list. (Note that digital sales for Minecraft aren’t included.)
Elden Ring Nightreign (Bandai Namco)
Doom: The Dark Ages (Xbox)
Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (Xbox)
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Xbox)
F1 25 (EA)
Minecraft (Xbox) [digital sales not included]
Split Fiction (EA)
Grand Theft Auto V (2K)
EA Sports FC 25 (EA)
One of those games, EA Sports FC 25, is Canadian, hailing from EA Vancouver. On top of that, Quebec City’s Beenox assisted with the development of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. On the flip side, it’s notable that Ubisoft Quebec‘s action-adventure title Assassin’s Creed Shadows didn’t make the top 10 this month after being on it between February and April.
Otherwise, there aren’t really any surprises here. Notably, Elden Ring: Nightreign claimed the top spot despite only launching on May 30. The second best-seller, Doom: The Dark Ages, dropped on May 15. Doom‘s high inclusion here is noteworthy because it’s an Xbox-published game that also came to PS5, similar to Forza Horizon 5, Oblivion Remastered and, of course, Call of Duty. It’s a testament to the increasing importance of having multiplatform releases to reach larger audiences. (And yet, despite increasing profits, Microsoft still laid off many gaming employees as part of its broader AI ambitions.)
For context, here’s the U.S. top 10 per Circana:
Elden Ring Nightreign (Bandai Namco)
Doom: The Dark Ages (Xbox)
Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered (Xbox)
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Xbox)
MLB: The Show 25 (PlayStation)
Minecraft (Xbox)
Grand Theft Auto V (2K)
NBA 2K25 (2K)
EA Sports FC 25 (EA)
The only real difference between the Canadian and U.S. lists are the inclusion of MLB and NBA on the latter. Meanwhile, Split Fiction and F1 made the Canadian lists. (It will be interesting to see how F1 might get a further boost in June, given the release of Apple’s Brad Pitt-led F1 movie.)
Looking ahead, June should be a particularly interesting month given the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World. Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach also launched last month. Stay tuned in the coming weeks once we get June’s data.
In the meantime, MobileSyrup has partnered with the Entertainment Software Association of Canada on The Great Canadian Game-Off. Over the next several weeks, we want you to vote for your favourite Canadian games, and you can even win gaming subscription gift cards for participating. Round 1 runs until July 25 and will have you helping to create a shortlist. Round 2 will then run from July 31 to August 25 and will challenge you to vote on your favourite overall game.
