The sons of late Portuguese forward Diogo Jota will accompany the matchday mascots when Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday, in a fixture charged with emotion.

As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, Dinis and Duarte, two of Jota’s three children, will join the mascots on the pitch before kick-off at 3:00 p.m. GMT, marking the first meeting between Liverpool and Wolves since Jota tragically died in a car crash in Spain in July, alongside his brother Andre Silva.

Jota, 28, spent three seasons with Wolves before joining Liverpool in 2020. During his time at Anfield, he scored 65 goals in 182 appearances, helping the club win the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, as well as the Premier League title last season. At Wolves, he had scored 44 goals in 131 appearances, initially joining on loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017.

Ahead of the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot reflected on Jota’s legacy in his programme notes. “Reflecting on everything that has happened over the last 12 months ignites a rollercoaster of emotions.

“Doing so leads me to think especially of the family of Diogo Jota on what will be their first Christmas without him. I can only hope that the feeling of love and affection that Diogo still generates brings them some solace.” Slot wrote.

The fixture promises to be a poignant tribute to Jota, celebrating his impact and legacy at both Liverpool and Wolves.
