SaharaReporters reported on July 31, that the Nigeria Police Force had invited Mr. Nkwuda Emmanuel, Head of Department, Child Development, Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and Mrs. Nneka Akam, Officer-in-Charge, Legal, Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for questioning over their alleged conspiracy in the alleged abduction, child trafficking, and unlawful detention.

According to the petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police FCID Annex, Enugu, the family accused Uche and two Inspectors under her of conspiring to sell a baby boy born to Susannah Nwanneka Nweze, their daughter, for N25 million.
They claimed that she was abducted and taken to a police clinic, where she gave birth to the baby boy. The family alleged that the baby was sold without their consent.
Subsequently, the NSCDC personnel arrested Nwanneka and detained him for several weeks, with the O/C legal later allegedly changing the extrajudicial statement of Nwanneka.
Following a series of reports by SaharaReporters, the NSCDC was forced to transfer the matter to NAPTIP, claiming that they are a government agency that is empowered by law to investigate and prosecute the case.
